Metal Sausage Grilling Rack
Grilled sausages are favored as much as a good old fashioned hot dog. To make it easier a metal sausage grilling rack is an outstanding addition to your grilling tools. To prevent sausages from splitting, ensure that the sausages are not too close to the radiant grill above. Lower the pan and / or the heat if excessive fat is spitting on to the heater element. It can help sometimes to prick sausages to reduce spitting (good sausages should not need this though!).
Cooking Time:
Grill sausages over medium heat (350 degrees Fahrenheit) until the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees. This process will take approximately 20 minutes — 10 minutes on each side. If you pre-cook the sausage, the cooking time will be less. Pre-cooked or uncooked, you can tell when sausages are done by inserting the thermometer into the center of each sausage and checking that it reads at least 160°F (70°C). Additionally, you can look for signs of golden brown on all sides and use a knife to slice into one sausage to check that no pink remains and that all parts are cooked through.
When considering healthy options, grilled sausage will certainly be better for your cardiovascular health – the NHS recommends grilling, rather than frying sausages – but doing this will have little effect on their carcinogenic properties. (You’ll also end up with a dry, tasteless banger: fat is an essential part of the sausage’s charm.
