Description
Hungarian paprika is made from peppers that are harvested and then sorted, toasted, and blended to create different varieties. All Hungarian paprikas have some degree of rich, sweet red pepper flavor, but they range in pungency and heat. In Hungary, it is not uncommon for cooks to have several grades of paprika in the kitchen.
This paprika is a Kulonleges paprika which bears the name Csemege, meaning exquisite delicacy, and is one of the highest grades available. Sweet capsicum peppers, which are like red bell peppers, are dried, ground and sifted through a variety of screens to produce this bright red flavorful powder called paprika. This Hungarian paprika has a sweet taste with a barely perceptible heat that makes it perfect for two classic Hungarian dishes: goulash and chicken paprikash.
Description:
Hungarian paprika is a bit hotter and slightly less sweet than Spanish paprika. Frontier® Hungarian Ground Paprika is used to add warm, natural color and mildly spicy, pungent flavor to soups, stews, grains. It also does well with hors d’ouvres and entrees. Try it in Jamaican Jerk Chicken Bowls and Roasted Red Pepper Pasta. This bulk paprika is kosher certified and non-irradiated.
Usage:
Paprika paste is the vital base layer of many Hungarian stews, like gulyás (goulash), halászlé (fish stew), pörkölt (stew), lecsó (pepper stew), and csirke paprikás (paprika chicken). The paste is usually bloomed in hot oil, added just after onions, garlic, or other mirepoix to build flavor and body Hungarian Paprika can also be used as a finishing touch for deviled eggs, to season chicken, rice, potatoes, and vegetables, and is commonly used as a base for creating seasoning blends.
Hungarian paprika traditionally comes in eight different flavor profiles, ranging from mild and bright red to spicy, pungent, and pale orange. The most common is a bright red variety called édesnemes, which has a pungent pepper flavor and sweetness.
