Description
Garlic powder is a spice that is derived from dehydrated garlic and used in cooking for flavour enhancement. The process of making powdered garlic includes drying and dehydrating the vegetable, then powdering it through machinery or home-based appliances depending on the scale of production.
Garlic powder is a very common seasoning. Applications include pasta, pizza, ranch dressing and grilled chicken. Garlic salt is simply salt plus garlic powder. Garlic powder is a common component of spice mix. Any dish with ground beef, meatballs, meatloaf, chili, hamburgers is a great candidate for powder. Sprinkle it in. Its fine texture makes sure the garlic flavor is evenly distributed throughout the dish.
Once dry, garlic is ground to reach the point of desired fineness. Between the two, powder has a finer consistency and has a texture that closely resembles cornstarch. Meanwhile, granulated garlic has a bigger grind and is much closer to the texture of cornmeal.
Benefits:
Garlic powder has many health benefits due to its high nutrient content. Experts agree garlic can help boost your immune system, fight off infections, and lower cholesterol levels. It can also help improve circulation and prevent blood clots. These benefits make it a staple in my cabinet and many people feel the same way.
Usage:
If you’re looking for something to provide your meals with additional umami or simply want to streamline your weeknight cooking, swap out your old jar of for a fresh one and taste the difference. Shake it straight onto popcorn, into your salad dressings, and your mashed potatoes. Use 1/8 teaspoon of garlic powder in place of each clove.
The texture of garlic powder makes it ideal for spice rubs and dredges. Minced fresh garlic would make it lumpy, thanks in part to the moisture, but the dry powder is much more easily dispersed. Because this powder is incredibly versatile, you’ll–of course–want to keep plenty on hand. Nonetheless, checking the expiration dates on these is critical. When stored properly, it should last for three to four years.
To maintain freshness, this spice is shipped in glass bottles. That’s because glass jars can preserve the freshness of spices for up to 2 years. Glass is an awesome option for storing spices because it doesn’t react to ingredients, unlike plastics and wood. Glass doesn’t typically conduct heat and you can see what’s inside to keep track of inventory.
This spice is additive and preservative free !!!!
