Description

Ground Allspice, also known as Jamaica pepper, myrtle pepper, pimenta, or pimento, is the dried unripe berry of Pimenta dioica, a mi canopy tree native to the Greater Antilles, southern Mexico, and Central America, now cultivated in many warm parts of the world. The berries are briefly fermented, then sun-dried until brown. Often mistaken for a blend of spices, allspice is a single ingredient seasoning with loads of unique flavor.

History:

Allspice got its name in the 17th century, when allspice berries were first imported to Europe, since it’s said to taste like a combination of clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Storage:

To maintain freshness, Ground Allspice is shipped in glass bottles. Glass jars can preserve the freshness of spices for up to 2 years. That’s because glass is an awesome option for storing spices. Glass doesn’t react to ingredients, unlike some kinds of plastics and wood. Glass doesn’t typically conduct heat and you can see what’s inside to keep track of inventory.

Ground spices and herbs leaves have a storage life of 2 to 3 years. Dried whole spices and herbs have a slightly longer storage life of 3 to 5 years with proper storage. By storing spices in a cool, dark place, you extend the spice life while maintaining freshness for longer periods.

This spice is additive and preservative free !!!!
