Chimney BBQ Starter

$12.95

A chimney BBQ starter is used so that you do not have to taste that horrible lighter fluid flavor in that meat you worked so hard to prepare. Load up to 16oz of briquettes and apply flame from the bottom of the chimney. Once that charcoal is burning, simply transfer it into your grill or smoker and away you go. Most butane lighters fit neatly into the holes at the bottom of the chimney allowing you to apply flame directly to the coals.

The fire from the cubes will begin burning the charcoal and the flames will grow upwards from there. Depending on weather conditions, in about 10 to 15 minutes the coals should be sufficiently lit to pour into the grill. You’ll know the coals are ready when the ones on top have started to turn a bit gray with ash.

Results:

Since the fuel is concentrated in a relatively small space vertically, a chimney starter is incredibly effective, lighting enough coal for a 22″ kettle or any smoker in about 15 to 20 minutes. I find this method to be faster than using lighter fluid, and there’s no lingering chemical smell just waiting to ruin your food. Usage:

Before dumping your coals, make sure to give the chimney BBQ starter set a little shake. This will ensure you’re free of any potential paper residue, wood, or charcoal dust before pouring the fuel on the grate. I never mix wood chunks with charcoal when starting a chimney. The chunks may smoke out your fire and make coal harder to light. A chimney is an outstanding value resulting in better taste to your meal. Your food tastes like food, not charcoal lighter fluid. Many people use chimney fuel to get the charcoal lit. The included gas lighter is more than adequate to jump-start the process.
